OVERVIEW
About the Project
ALMEE has been involved in ozone depleting substance issues since 1992, serving as principal coordinator in the Ministry of Environment and member of the national committee on the country program for phasing out CFCs. Activities include bilateral cooperation projects with AFD France for reconverting commercial refrigerator manufacturers to non-CFC technologies, installing recovery and recycling networks for CFCs, and training technicians. Projects with GTZ Germany covered training in improved operations for refrigeration using hydrocarbons as CFC substitutes and customs officer training on ozone depleting substances.
Project Objectives
Phase out CFC use in Lebanon in line with the Montreal Protocol. Reconvert commercial refrigerator manufacturers to non-CFC technologies. Install a national CFC recovery and recycling network. Train refrigeration technicians on hydrocarbon substitutes. Train Lebanese customs officers on ozone depleting substance regulations.
